Let’s Get Your Skincare for Summer in Check

Young Woman Relaxin in Sun

The start of summer is a vital time to revamp your skincare routine. We’re no longer hiding away in our blankets and coats, waiting for the cold and gray to pass. If you’re paying attention, you’ll definitely notice how your skin changes with the seasons—just like the clothes you wear!

At Touch MedSpa, our skincare experts can show you the way to healthy, glowing skin. The first step is making sure your skincare for summer is locked in; it will be increasingly important as you spend time outside in the sun. (It’s important year-round, but we won’t lecture you about that right now.)

Let’s talk about a few ways to lock it in 🔐

Use SPF please

Build using SPF into your makeup or morning routine (and don’t forget to check the expiration date and reapply every 2 hours); using an SPF of at least 30 is necessary to protect your skin from UV rays.

We carry tons of different medical-grade options from SkinCeuticals and ZO Skin Health. There are creams, powders, and even sunscreen-primer and sunscreen-moisturizer combinations.

If you experience sun damage this summer—or you’re still dealing with repercussions from damage in the past—we offer sun damage skin treatment in North Myrtle Beach.

If you really aren’t sure what your skin needs, we’re here to help! Through a skin consultation, we can explore your skin’s nature and problem areas to find out what products best suit it.

Consider lightweight alternatives

Another change you should make in your skincare for summer is to switch out your winter skincare products for more lightweight ones. In the winter, we recommend creamier, heavier-duty products to keep your skin from drying out with the harsh conditions. As your environment changes, so should your regimen!

In the summer, humidity and heat rise, irritating your skin and causing it to produce more oil. We recommend more gel-based, lightweight products that won’t add to the oiliness in the warmer months.

Keep moisturizing

Since we’re on the topic of moisturizing, we want to make something clear: don’t stop moisturizing in the summer under any circumstances. We totally understand the logic; maybe your skin is super oily, so you’re thinking, “Why would I add more moisture?”

It sounds counterintuitive, but excessive summer heat can dehydrate your skin, resulting in more moisture production. Basically, your skin is working extra hard to produce moisture because it isn’t getting enough—hence the shiny forehead and ball of your nose.

For oily skin, gel-based, oil-free moisturizers are a great option! You’ll get hydration without the excessive shine.

Prime your skin with a facial

You’ve got tons of medical facial options for starting your skincare for summer off right, but we want to highlight one of our favorites. The HydraFacial is a gentle, 3-step regimen great for all skin care veterans and first-timers alike. The three steps include: cleansing, exfoliation, and hydration.

One of our favorite parts of the HydraFacial is its gentle nature, making it a safe option for your year-round skincare routine!

HydraFacial

Our HydraFacial will prime your skin with a deep cleanse, custom peptide and antioxidant application, and of course, hydration.

What our HydraFacial tackles:

  • Active acne
  • Clogged pores
  • Redness
  • Dryness
  • Fine lines
  • Skin texture

This treatment is completely customizable based on your skin needs! We offer boosters that can help counteract pigmentation and heat buildup from too much time in the sun. Peels are also a great way to combat skin discoloration, which can be combined with HydraFacials.

You can build this into your routine all throughout summer to keep your skin glowing and healthy. We recommend a HydraFacial treatment every 4 to 6 weeks.

Exfoliate

Dirt, makeup, sunscreen, sweat, and chlorine are all common elements that cause your skin problems. They clog your pores and lead to acne and unhappy skin. Exfoliating removes all of this!

Exfoliating once or twice a week (depending on your skin type) will do the trick—but we can give you a personal recommendation. Make sure you’re moisturizing and applying SPF after! Chemical exfoliators especially cause your skin to be more sensitive to the sun, so you’ll need ample protection.
